TEMPGUN.COM- Pro Exotics PE-1 Temp Gun Operating
Instructions
Congratulations on your new
Pro Exotics PE-1 Temperature Gun! The PE-1
is a fantastic tool!
The PE-1 Temp Gun is compact
and easy to use. Just aim, press the SCAN button, and read the temperature in
less than a second. Hold the SCAN button down to get continuous temperature
feedback, instantly! The PE-1 Temp Gun will read the SURFACE temp of just about
anything!
°F or °C MODE:
To change from °F to °C,
first turn the PE-1 on by pressing the SCAN button, then press the smaller mode
button four times, the °F or °C will flash, then press the SCAN key to confirm
the mode.
MINIMUM OR MAXIMUM TEMP MODE:
To use the PE-1’s minimum or
maximum mode, first turn the PE-1 on by pressing the SCAN button, then press
the smaller mode button once for Minimum or twice for Maximum function. The “MIN” or “MAX” icon will flash, press the SCAN button again to confirm the Minimum or
Maximum mode. The PE-1 will display only
the Minimum or Maximum temperature of your focus object. This “MAX” feature comes in very handy when
looking for that absolute “hottest point”, whether it is a glow plug (RC use),
basking spot (reptile use), or other application.
LOCK MODE:
The lock mode is useful for
continuous monitoring of temperatures.
To use the lock mode, first turn the PE-1 on by pressing the SCAN
button, then press the mode button three times for the lock mode function. The lock icon will flash,
press the SCAN button again to confirm the lock measurement mode. The PE-1 will continuously display the
temperature for up to 60 minutes or until the SCAN button is pressed.
EMISSIVITY:
The PE-1 Temp Gun is supplied
with a non-adjustable default Emissivity of 0.95.
LCD ERROR MESSAGES:
The PE-1 incorporates visual
diagnostic messages as follows:
“Hi” and “Lo” readings- “Hi”
or “Lo” is displayed when the temperature being measured is outside of the
range of the instrument. “Hi” when
higher than +428°F and “Lo” when lower than -27°F.
“Er2” and “Er3” readings-
“Er2” is displayed when the PE-1 is exposed to rapid changes in ambient
temperatures. “Er3” is displayed when
the ambient temperature of the PE-1 exceeds +14°F or +122°F. In both cases you should allow 30 minutes for
the Temp Gun to stabilize to the working temperature (+32°F to +104°F).
“Er” readings- for all other
error messages it is necessary to reset the Temp Gun. To reset, remove the battery and wait for a
minimum of one minute, reinsert the battery and turn the unit on. If the error
message remains, scream in frustration, and then contact Pro Exotics so we can
help you to rectify the situation.
BATTERIES YO:
The PE-1 uses a visual
battery life indicator. The battery
symbol is in the upper left corner of the LCD display. A fully colored battery symbol indicates full
battery life. An empty battery symbol
indicates an exhausted battery. (please note: temp
readings can be inconsistent with a nearly exhausted battery)
When the battery icon
indicates the battery is low, replace immediately with a CR2032 lithium cell. Please
note: It is important to turn the unit off before replacing the battery
otherwise the Temp Gun may malfunction. In fact, it could cause a tear in the
fabric of the Universe, and all of existence may be erased. You don’t want that.
To replace the battery,
loosen the screw on the back side of the PE-1. The back housing will hinge away
at the top of the unit (IR lens) and allow access to the battery location. Use
a small screwdriver to remove the depleted battery, and replace with a fresh
cell. Dispose of the depleted battery properly and keep away from children, cause you know how the kiddies are with batteries (they like
to eat them). Do not swallow or eat the
battery. If you do, you’re a dummy. Or a small child.
CAUTIONS:
Protect the PE-1 from Electro
Magnetic Interference from induction heaters and microwave ovens. Keep the PE-1
away from static discharge. Do not leave the PE-1 on or near hot objects,
including swimsuit models (note: the PE-1 does not measure “foxiness”). Do not
try and measure the temperature of your best friend’s flatulence. That’s just gross.
NOTES:
Shiny or polished surfaces
can give inaccurate readings. The PE-1
cannot measure through transparent surfaces such as glass or plastic (don’t be
a dope), it will measure the surface temperature
instead. Steam, dust, smoke, and other
optical obstructions can prevent accurate measurements.
GUARANTEE:
ONE YEAR BABY!
CARE:
Keep the PE-1 dry; if it gets wet, wipe it immediately. Use and store the PE-1 only in normal
environments. Handle the PE-1 carefully, do not drop it, especially into an active
volcano. Don’t place it on the railroad tracks in the hopes of turning it into
a temperature measuring “flattened penny”. Keep the PE-1 away from dust and
dirt. The lens should be kept clean at
all times, care should be taken when cleaning the lens using only a soft cloth
or cotton swab with water or medical alcohol, allowing the lens to fully dry
before using the Temp Gun. Stay cool.
